We are
The 15 Mile Fund

The 15 Mile Fund exists to ensure that Art Department professionals in the UK Film & TV industry
never need to turn down career opportunities because of the costs associated with getting to them

About The Fund

The purpose of The 15 Mile Fund was originally to level the playing field for new Film & TV entrants, especially:

  • those who lived far away from film making hubs such as London, and/or

  • those who came from less-wealthy backgrounds

because the costs of travelling to career opportunities - and finding accommodation nearby - can be a barrier to entry into our industry.

However, we realise that the last few years have been turbulent for us all, and that many of our more senior colleagues may be experiencing hiccups with cashflow etc, so the Fund is actually available to anyone who may be thinking twice about taking up a career opportunity just because of the travel and/or accommodation costs involved, no matter their job title.

By ‘career opportunity’, we generally mean:

  • A training course

  • A networking event or opportunity

  • A job interview

  • An unpaid work experience placement

… however, the scheme can also be used to help with travel/accomm costs in the first few days of a new job if cash is tight while you’re waiting for your first paycheque.

Who We Help

The Fund is open to anyone who's been a member of Filmbase for more than a month, and operates on a first-come-first-served basis.

We are discrete, non-judgemental and rely on the honesty of applicants. We ask only that you have exhausted all other options for covering your costs before you apply.

Our pot of money is small, but it will be replenished every year or so through fundraising events which are open

to all - take a look at our Events page for more details.

And if you are granted money through the Fund, we hope that you will consider donating - or helping us

to fundraise for it - when your cashflow has improved.
